we had to say 'good bye' to ronin.
last august if you remember, we got ronin.
we were to take care of this little guy and his breeder would use him once a year to father some beautiful pups!
he soon fit in our family routine and right away loved mika.
the feeling feeling was mutual...mika would
we was quite the little piggy though.
he would snort like a pig and snored like you wouldn't believe!
he had this strange little habit of sucking on a ball, kinda like a baby sucks a soother...
he would lie in his pillow and close his eyes & suck...i mean, his mouth would make the same motions as a baby going to town on the soother!
this little fellow wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed...if ya know what i mean.
he did things when he wanted and was stubborn.
he was a sweet little lug most of the time, but this past spring, his behavior started changing.
he would growl & try to bite if one came too close to his food bowl while he was eating.
he started being aggressive if you got too close to his things, like toys, bed etc.
when other kids visited our home he would bark aggressively and try to bite...i guess in his mind he was protecting his territory.
it got to the point where he had bitten me once and dani twice. he almost got jordyn a couple of times too.
i. will. NOT. have. a. dog. that. bites!
as much as he could be lovable, he was also ornery!
so, before he could seriously hurt someone....my dear ones or a complete stranger....he had to go!
and since he was going back to his breeder this week b/c we were going up north, we explained to her that this was kind of a deal breaker. i can't have a biter in my home! she was very understanding & did not hesitate to take him back.
she was a 'dog behaviorist' before she started breeding dogs.
i'm hoping she'll be able to get his aggression under control & snap him out of biting!
this was the scene this morning....
eryn & dani were working for wayne today so they brought him with them to fort erie...
mika sensed something was up...
'why was her little buddy leaving'?
she didn't like it one bit that he was in there & not ripping around the yard with her.
she chased them down as they drove out of the driveway...
but stopped when she got to the invisible fence and just watched them take her pal away...
to be honest, it broke my heart.
all day she was restless, & looking for him.
for her, he was her best bud.
they played awesome together!
they balanced each other & he took his cues from her.
he would look to her when he had to bark if someone drove in the driveway....she always barked first :).
he never tried to be aggressive with her though....actually, he did.
only. once.
and she let him have it. he knew she was boss.
he never tried it again!
mika couldn't hurt a flea, yet, instinct kicked in and she put him in his rightful place.
we will miss him.
he would sit by my feet wherever i was...he always wanted to be near someone.
the kids will miss him a lot!
even though, he had a 'jekyll & hyde' character, they had a soft spot for his 'so~ugly~he's~cute' face.
they did not want to send him back.
i was they bad guy who made the decision....well, wayne agreed too, of course :)!
mika will miss him the most.
so, it hadn't been quite a year...we got him aug 24 2012.
it was a day of mixed feelings...
on one hand i'm relieved that no one will get hurt ~whoever comes over.
on the other hand we will miss his sweet face & easy way he had.
it's just been 'one of those days'!
I'm so sorry to hear that! But it is the best decision for your family... poor Mika! When our cat died our boxer went into a depression that lasted several months... I'll pray that Mika will be okay with it in time--poor girl :(
ReplyDeletethanks kel. yes, mika's is quite lonely these days & missing her buddy a lot! the good thing is, our kids are playing with her more since they are not in school yet. hope she's ok once sept comes!!
